Nestlé has finished a HUF 900 millin upgrade of the road connecting to its plant in Bük (NW Hungary). The company widened a more than half-kilometer section of the road and built dedicated lanes for lorries and buses.

The entire project took seven months to complete, and the new road will be opened to public traffic within a few weeks, once the necessary permits have been obtained.

The announcement highlights that a stormwater drainage ditch system was installed on both sides of the roads, and a stormwater retention basin was also constructed. Safe, separate lanes and accompanying barriers were established for Nestlé’s incoming freight traffic, while a separate access control system was set up for passenger vehicle traffic. A safe bus stop, a waiting area, and a bus turnaround for Nestlé’s shuttle buses were built for Nestlé employees. The project also included the restoration of a previously sunken utility line and the installation of modern LED street lighting along the entire section, the press release says.

According to Tanja Zigic, managing director of the Nestlé Purina plant, the investment is closely linked to the development of the Nestlé Purina plant in Bük, where, in recent years, the plant’s production capacity has been expanded and its production facilities and office buildings have been modernized through investments totaling HUF 300 billion.

The food company Nestlé operates in 189 countries worldwide. The Swiss company employs a total of more than 3,000 people at its three factories in Hungary – in Szerencs, Diósgyőr and Bük – as well as at its headquarters in Budapest.
