The National Bank of Hungary (MNB) is issuing this Thursday a silver commemorative coin with a face value of HUF 20,000 (EUR 55) marking the 70th anniversary of the 1956 revolution and freedom fight, the central bank governor said in a decree published in Tuesday's issue of the official gazette Magyar Közlöny.
The commemorative coin is made of silver with a fineness of 925 per mille, weighs 31.46 grams, has a diameter of 38.61 millimeters and a milled edge, the central bank said. A mintage of 5,000 pieces may be produced, it added.
The obverse of the coin depicts a five-pointed star lying on paving stones and broken into pieces, with the number 1956 visible between the star's points on the right-hand side.
The reverse side features a flag with a jagged edge, at the top left is the number 70, while at the bottom right is an excerpt from a 1953 poem by László Nagy.
The commemorative coin was designed by Péter Szanyi.
