A total of 46 applications were submitted by 37 parties in a tender for the establishment and expansion of wind power capacity in Hungary, the Hungarian Energy and Public Utility Regulatory Authority (MEKH) said on Tuesday.
Applications were submitted for eight grid nodes across six districts for feed-in capacity of 1,834 MVA. The applications are for nameplate wind farm capacity of 2,289 MWe and include commitments for 1,947 MWh of energy storage.
Preliminary results will be announced no later than December 13.
In a social media post, Economy and Energy Minister István Kapitány said interest was "huge", noting that bids had been submitted for the construction of 2,300 megawatts of new wind power capacity, while the first round allows for the grid connection of approximately 700 megawatts of new capacity.
He noted that the previous government had hindered the construction of wind farms for years, but they had changed this and begun to make up for lost time. “Our goal is simple: to generate more energy domestically, reduce our dependence on foreign sources, and make Hungary’s energy supply more secure,” the minister stated.
