The Budapest Zoo celebrated its 155th anniversary with a variety of activities this past week-end. Located in the City Park, the institution offered guided tours, lectures and concerts from Saturday to Monday.

One of the oldest zoos in the world, it opened on August 9, 1866 to the sound of the noon bell. Its 'birthday' fell on a Monday this year, so the anniversary celebrations started on the two preceding weekend days, from Saturday to Monday.

The weekend included guided tours of the zoo, a lecture on the secrets of the Big Rock, elephants and pachyderms. Handicraft activities were organised on the terrace of the Palm House and there was also a children's activity program in the India House.

Visitors to the Budapest Zoo on Saturday and Sunday were treated to talks with famous foster parents and quizzes. There were also concerts on all three days.
