China's BYD, the world's leading plug-in electric and plug-in hybrid (New Energy Vehicle – NEV) cars, appeared in Hungary in October last year, and after July this year, it is rapidly increasing its presence on the Hungarian new car market. it was already the best-selling car in the electric vehicle (BEV) segment.
As BYD PR Hungary explains in its announcement, Hungarian dealerships achieved a 25.4% share in the BEV segment with the sale of 148 passenger cars in July. Since January, 663 BYD passenger cars have been sold, which gives the brand a 12.7 percent share.
The acceleration of the deliveries of cars ordered in the government incentive program for electric vehicles is a reason for confidence, based on the registrations so far, the current result may even increase several times by the end of the year, PR manager Péter Erhardt indicated .
He reminded: currently, three dealerships deal with the BYD brand in Hungary, and according to the manufacturer's promise, their number will increase this year as part of the development of the national network.
Péter Erhardt touched on the fact that BYD is expanding its model range, in addition to purely electric vehicles, it will also be present in Hungary with plug-in hybrid models from 2024.
Founded in 2003, BYD Auto is the automotive subsidiary of the multinational hi-tech company BYD, the first car manufacturer to stop the production of fossil-fueled vehicles in the name of the electric transition, and it has been a leader in the sale of plug-in passenger vehicles (PEV) in China for nine consecutive years. The company announced in 2023 that it would establish a car factory in Szeged with an investment of EUR several billion.
