Sales in Hungary of SEAT and Cupra brand passenger cars could reach 2,500 in 2026, a 25% increase over the base period, the brand manager for local importer Porsche Hungaria, Ádám Rozgonyi said.
He announced that sales of Cupra cars rose 47% to 916 in Q1-Q3, while SEAT registrations increased 16% to 637. For the full year, he put Cupra's market share around 1% and SEAT's at 0.7%.
Commenting on the new-car market in Hungary, he noted that purchases by private individuals have gained momentum this year, a trend from which Cupra has also benefited: the proportion of private buyers rose by 40% in the first three quarters of this year.
Across the entire Hungarian auto market, 44,652 new cars were purchased by private individuals between January and September 2026, 38.3% more than during the same period last year.
Ádám Rozgonyi explained that the growth of the private segment was driven by both economic and political factors. Starting in April, the forint strengthened, which significantly improved car pricing; at the same time, due to the political environment, a wait-and-see attitude emerged among corporate customers in the market, a trend that was less pronounced among private customers. At the same time, growth in the private segment was driven by Chinese brands making an ambitious entry into the Hungarian market, as these brands primarily target private buyers, he added.
