April 9, 2020

In an open letter, the President and Rector of the Central European University (CEU), Michael Ignatieff has announced that the CEU Board of Trustees reaffirmed that CEU must maintain its presence in Budapest, which will serve as home to our Institute for Advanced Study, the Vera and Donald Blinken Open Society Archives, and a new research institute dedicated to the interdisciplinary study of democracy.

Following a thorough review of the available options, the Board of Trustees unanimously endorsed a plan for the university’s permanent home in Vienna. The Trustees concluded that the historic Steinhof hospital complex in Vienna’s 14th district is the best site for CEU and directed the CEU leadership team to complete contract negotiations by June 2020.
