The 4 millionth car was produced at Suzuki's Esztergom plant, northwest of Budapest, on Thursday, with the company planning to produce 130,000 cars this year, following 160,000 in 2023, Magyar Suzuki Plc. told MTI.
Deputy CEO Róbert Krisztián recalled to journalists at the factory that production at the Japanese carmaker's Hungarian plant started in 1992. Suzuki has invested EUR two billion in Esztergom.
Since the beginning, the entire car production process has been carried out at the site, and development is ongoing. The deputy CEO said that the owner is increasingly outsourcing more and more tasks to his Hungarian company, and Hungarian engineers are also playing a prominent role in the development of prototypes and production technology.
Over the past 30 years or so, seven models have been built in Esztergom, and the Vitara and S-Cross are currently in production. Vehicles made here are exported to 123 countries around the world.
In the financial year 2022, Magyar Suzuki Plc. had total net sales of EUR 2.14 billion, of which EUR 271 million came from domestic sales and EUR 1.87 billion from export sales. Sales in Hungary grew by 2.3% and export sales by 26% this year. Profit after tax was EUR 22.7 million.
According to Datahouse, the Suzuki brand registered 12,167 new cars in Hungary in 2023, giving it an 11.3% share of the Hungarian new car market.
The 4 millionth car is a Vitara model with GLX equipment, in ivory-cosmic black pearl metallic.
