Audi Hungaria Plc. broke its ten-year production record in 2023 by producing nearly 178,000 vehicles and more than 1.66 million engines, the company told MTI on Wednesday.
The Győr-based company said in a statement that 177,775 vehicles were produced last year, up from 171,134 the year before, while 1,660,425 engines were manufactured in Győr, up from 1,677,545 in 2022. Of the engines produced, 114,058 were electric, up from 108,097 last year.
The company produced 158,802 three-cylinder, 806,685 four-cylinder petrol and 198,802 diesel engines among the internal combustion engines. It produced 19,734 five-cylinder petrol engines and 277,081 petrol and 78,905 diesel engines of the six-cylinder variety. Audi Hungaria produced 6,216 ten-cylinder petrol engines in 2023.
In a statement, the Chairman of the Board of Management of the company, which celebrated its 30th anniversary last year, Alfons Dintner, was quoted as saying that 2023 was a record year not only for vehicle production, but also for the production of exclusive series body components and electric drives.
Of the vehicles produced, 94,283 were Q3 models, 73,806 were Q3 Sportbacks, 6,850 were Audi TT Coupés and 2,681 were TT Roadsters. Of the Q3 and Q3 Sportback models, 24,579 plug-in hybrids and 5,393 mild hybrids were produced in 2023.
It was pointed out that the company offers competence-based procurement, IT and financial services in addition to engine and vehicle production, and that its staff also work on high-quality technical development.
The technical development area, which has been in operation since 2001, was expanded in 2023 to include new competencies, including the development of combustion and electric drive modules for the entire powertrain system.
Audi Hungaria Plc. employed 11,663 people on December 31, 2023, making it the largest employer in the region in 2023, but together with its subsidiary founded last year, it employs a total of 12,143 people, they said.
The subsidiary, which provides services to the Volkswagen group that are not directly related to production, such as procurement, IT and financial services, has seen its customer base grow steadily over the past year, the statement said.
In addition to the Audi models, the company will start series production of the Cupra Terramar in 2024 and preparations for the production of the new generation of electric engines, the MEBeco, have also started.
