Audi Hungaria has announced the launch of yet another electric set of engines. The next-gen engines to be made on future production lines worth EUR 300 million will be built in economy cars of the group to meet heavy market demand.
The new project, where about 7% of the costs are to be borne by Hungarian taxpayers through a government decision, is said to create work for 500 people at the new production lines. The investment improves Hungary's position on the global automotive landscape to a large extent.
The anticipated so-called MEB ECO powertrains will be used in the economy e-cars of Volkswagen Group. Production is scheduled to start in 2025 in Győr for which purpose a production area of multiple production lines will be built.
Having a new product also entails new competences since by increasing manufacturing depth the plate package and the rotor, both needed for the electric powertrain, will also be made by staff in Győr; later on performance electronics will be manufactured there as well. All that will allow the company to expand know how.
