The foundation stone of leading powertrain system developer AVL Hungary’s new vehicle test hall was laid in Érd, just SE of Budapest, where the company is building out its new center and automotive test base.
The current phase of the investment announced back in 2018 is completed for EUR 20.1 million, and it creates 250 new jobs. About a quarter of the investment costs is covered by Hungarian taxpayers through a government decision.
The vehicle test hall to be finished by the end of 2022 will have two sections: the smaller part will provide an area for the assembly, alteration and instrumentation of different powertrain elements, but there will also be a storage, a welding and machine workshop and an office there. The larger part will host the test area and the prototype storage.
Apart from building the vehicle test hall, there is an ongoing construction of a three-story office building of 3,250 sqm.
Seated in Graz, Austria, AVL deals with development of inner combustion, hybrid and electric engines and powertrains, and it is a key global automotive player. In parallel to its investment at its seat in Érd, AVL Hungary Kft., which was established in 2002, further develops its branches in Kecskemét and Zalaegerszeg that hosts an R&D center and focuses on vehicle testing, respectively.
