The German multinational engineering and electronics company Bosch expands its Budapest Engineering Center with an EUR 120 million investment. In the new building complex housing creative spaces, innovation zones, and relaxation areas, Hungarian engineers will develop Bosch's self-driving systems and the Budapest unit will also have a considerable role in the German company's electromobility-related R&D activities. The first phase of the investment is set to be finished by 2021.
The Budapest Engineering Center, active since 2005, is more and more significant as the location of Bosch's worldwide development work, and with its more than 24 departments and more than 2400 employees, it has become the second biggest European R&D site after Bosch's German unit.
It plays an important part in developing autonomous and electric mobility solutions as well as being one of the most significant automobile electronics research, development, and test centers of the Bosch group. The dynamic evolution of the center that works on projects including ABS, ESP, airbag, engine control, and automatized parking systems, and the next-generation development projects justified purchasing the new lot next to the current Bosch campus.
The new Bosch campus will be built on a total of 90,000 square meters in two phases and will be able to host 1800 employees.
According to Hungarian Foreign Affairs and Trade Minister Szijjártó, Bosch, which is a determining company at global level, is bringing to Budapest an investment that will further expand the development capacity of the automotive industry.
Head of Bosch Hungary Daniel Korioth said the expansion of the Budapest Development Centre is a strategic investment in view of the fact that it reinforces the company’s commitment to Hungary. “As an investor, Bosch finds large numbers of talented and highly-trained workers here, and offers them commissions that represent an interesting professional challenge”, he added.
