The stock index of the Budapest Stock Exchange (BSE), the BUX, closed the year at 50,720.71 points on Thursday, with a turnover of HUF 6.6 billion, up 8,613 points, or 20%, in 2021.
The annual turnover of the BSE is estimated by the state news agency MTI to have exceeded HUF 3,360 billion this year, compared to a turnover of under HUF 3,300 billion in 2020.
Leading stocks gained significantly in 2021, with OTP the biggest gainer. The bank's stock was worth HUF 16,600 on the last trading day of this year, while it closed 2020 at 13,360, up 3,240 or 24.25%. OTP reached its annual and historic high on November 5 at 19,590.
Mol's share price rose by 15.07% in one year from HUF 2,190 billion to HUF 2,520 billion, an increase of HUF 330. The value of the oil company's shares also peaked on the fifth day of November at 2,810.
The value of Richter shares rose to 8,725 from 7,440, an increase of 1,285 or 17.27%. The pharmaceutical company's shares reached their highest value this year at the end of March, at 9,320, which was also the paper's historic high.
Magyar Telekom's shares gained HUF 31.5 in 2021, up 8.29% from HUF 380.0 to HUF 411.5; their highest value this year was reached on September 7 at HUF 439.
The BUMIX index of small and medium-sized shares rose from 3,668.41 points at the end of 2020 to 4,232.45 points, an increase of 564.04, or 15.38%.
The BSE stock index started the year at 41,733 points, with minor fluctuations, and then made month after month of highs until November.
