Holcim Hungary Ltd.'s Open Day for stone mine visits in June was a great success with a record number of participants. The event gave visitors an insight into the daily life of the Bükkösd Quarry, the history and process of limestone extraction, and a first-hand look at the machinery used for extraction.

According to a company statement, visit to the mine attracts increasing interest each year. This year's Open Days attracted a record number of visitors: more than 300 people attended, most of them from the surrounding municipalities: primary school groups, representatives of local communities, families and friends from several municipalities in the South Transdanubian region.

"This year's event was also special for us because, for the first time since we changed our name, we opened the doors of our mine to the public under the name Holcim," the Managing Director of Holcim Hungary Ltd., Tamás Hoffmann, emphasized. "We were proud to show our visitors the entire extraction process and the quality criteria we have to meet here in the mine in order to be able to produce quality cement in a sustainable way at the Királyegyháza Cement Plant, because the foundation of everything starts here in the Bükkösd Quarry," he added.

Holcim Hungary's Bükkösd Quarry provides high quality limestone raw material for cement production, the statement says. As a pioneer of sustainable building solutions, the Királyegyháza Cementgyár last year introduced its first green cement product, EcoPlanet, which is also made from Bükkösd raw material and is the basis for sustainable, environmentally conscious construction in the long term.
