Danish medical supplies company Coloplast will expand its production capacities in Hungary over the next two years. "We're growing year by year and need therefore more space and more production capacity," said Coloplast CEO Lars Rasmussen in a statement.
The
investment, totaling HUF 21 billion (EUR 70 million) will create 701 jobs, 426
at Coloplast’s base in the eastern Hungarian town of Nyírbátor and 275 in
Tatabánya, west of Budapest. The government has contributed HUF two billion (EUR
6.6 mn) to the project. Currently, Coloplast, a supplier of ostomy, wound and
skin care products, also has production facilities in Denmark, China, France
and the USA, with a total of over 8,000 employees.
Coloplast
has been present in Hungary since 2001, employing more than 2,000 people. Its
two plants present in the country manufacture 65% of the Coloplast products
sold worldwide. Hungarian PM Viktor Orbán who received the company’s Senior Vice
President Allan Rasmussen in Budapest noted that two-thirds of Coloplast’s
local staff are women, adding that the company’s choice is also an
acknowledgement of the Hungarian employees.
Allan
Rasmussen said the recent decision on expanding the Hungarian centers of
operation can be explained by the company’s 12-year-long positive experience in
the country, in relation to which he praised in particular the performance and
expertise of Hungarian workers.
Coloplast
began production at the Tatabánya plant in April 2002. The second production
hall there was inaugurated in October 2003, as rising demand required an
upgrade. The third production hall was completed by the autumn of 2004. The
second production facility in Nyírbátor was launched in 2007.
