Hungarian market leader sportswear brand Decathlon increased its sales by 6% to HUF 86.2 billion in 2024, while its profit after tax rose from HUF 3.7 billion to HUF 4 billion, the company told MTI on Monday.
According to the statement, based on the renewed global brand identity, the brand's stores in Hungary also started to change their image and modernize in spring, while the "areas supporting sustainability and the economy of the circular business model" were given greater emphasis than ever before as a key strategic area.
In addition, as part of its long-term strategy, Decathlon is also strengthening its portfolio with the launch of a new product group, ‘Blue Products’.
Decathlon Hungary's objectives for this year include increasing the number of its EDGE certified buildings and rental properties, as well as making investments in mechanical engineering to continue to provide electricity for temperature control in addition to the five stores that have been EDGE certified so far. They also want to expand circular services such as buy-back, second chance, maintenance and repair, and rental, they stressed.
These all contribute to increasing product lifetime and reducing waste, as well as offering cost-effective options for sports enthusiasts. The company aims to continuously increase the share of these services in total sales, they added.
The French-owned sports equipment retail chain, the market leader in Hungary, has been present in the Hungarian retail market for 19 years. Decathlon has 24 stores and 1,400 employees.
