Within the framework of the international E.ON Group's ultra-fast charger installation program, the company has planned to install more than 1,000 ultra-fast charging points with a capacity of 150 kilowatts (kW) in nine European countries. Two of these charging stations were inaugurated in the parking lot of an Aldi supermarket in Székesfehérvár as the first stage of the development program.
According to E.ON, by the beginning of 2025, two ultra-fast 300 kW chargers will be installed at 14 more supermarkets each in Hungary in cooperation with Aldi. The chargers will be able to provide two times 150 kilowatts of power, dividing the 300 kilowatts, so that a total of 60 charging points will be available to motorists at 30 ultra-fast chargers.
The company currently operates 146 of its 260 public electric car chargers in Hungary in partnership with Aldi, it said.
E.ON told MTI that in 2022 it applied as part of a consortium to the European Union-funded European Network Facility for Transport (CEF2) call for proposals for transport development. CEF2 will provide EUR 31.7 million in funding to the international E.ON group for the installation of ultra-charging stations in the CONNECT-E General and CONNECT-E Cohesion projects.
The CONNECT-E General project will enable the company to deploy in Western Europe, while the CONNECT-E Cohesion project will provide funding for the company's deployments in Eastern Europe, including Hungary. They added that in the latter project, other partners besides E.ON have also received support.
The 300-kilowatt DC chargers can provide six times faster charging than the more common 50-kilowatt chargers, allowing vehicles to recharge their batteries in suitable conditions in as little as 15 minutes of shopping time, they said.
In addition to the charging stations planned in cooperation with Aldi Hungary, discussions with other partners are still underway to set up additional electric car charging points, E.ON said.
