Mass production has begun at South Korean-owned EcoPro BM Hungary's cathode materials plant in Debrecen (E Hungary), according to a company statement released and reviewed by MTI on Tuesday.

The plant is EcoPro's first European manufacturing base. The 44-hectare complex has three units: EcoPro BM produces cathode materials, EcoPro Innovation processes lithium and EcoPro AP makes industrial oxygen and nitrogen.

The plant has annual production capacity of 54,000 tons, sufficient to supply approximately 600,000 e-vehicles.

According to the company statement, environmental protection is one of the cornerstones of the company’s operations. During the design and operation of the facility, every process was structured with the goal of achieving the smallest possible ecological footprint, and their systems are continuously developed and modernized in line with technological advancements. As an example, they mentioned that modern HEPA filters were installed to protect air quality, thereby reducing emissions. They emphasized that production takes place in a strictly controlled environment to protect the health of employees.

The HUF 280 billion facility was opened at the end of 2025. It employs 630 workers.
