From January 2024, the Electrolux factory in Nyíregyháza, NE Hungary, will no longer produce refrigerators. The company took this decision after examining the capacity utilization of the plant, which employs 650 people, and future volume forecasts.
"The results of the impact study and the current business environment required us to act. Our goal remains to ensure Electrolux's long-term economic growth and to increase competitiveness in the refrigerator product category," Senior Vice President of the Electrolux Group and Managing Director of Electrolux Hungary, Sándor Gönczy said. He added that, in addition to the rights guaranteed in the collective agreement, they plan to develop a support program with the stakeholders that is fair and helps the future employment of their workers.
Electrolux is exploring with the relevant ministry and the local government the possibilities for further use of the site.
The decision does not affect the company's activities in Jászberény, southeast of Budapest, where Electrolux will continue to produce refrigerators developed to meet the requirements of the new energy law.
According to the company’s statement, the shutdown of the Nyíregyháza plant will not affect the delivery of products to Electrolux's customers and clients.
