Wireless internet availability has been significantly improved on both the departure and arrival levels in passenger areas of Liszt Ferenc International Airport. Budapest Airport promises better coverage and a stronger signal with the new system, offering a multiplication of previous capacity to passengers using Wi-Fi.
According to a press release by Budapest Airport, it will be a lot easier to keep in touch with the loved ones during the festive season when one is departing from or arriving at the airport.
Five years ago, Budapest Airport was among the first airports in Europe to launch the free wireless internet service, and due to the increasing number of passengers as well as the gadgets they bring with them and the evolution of usage patterns, an upgraded Wi-Fi service is offered now.
In practice this means that instead of the previous 2.4 GHz, Wi-Fi now also runs on the 5-GHz frequency band with a fully upgraded background infrastructure and increased band width at the airport. Airport professionals also improved coverage to ensure that the Wi-Fi signal reaches all locations in the terminal areas extending over tens of thousands of square meters. The switch to the new system had a truly amazing result: already on the first day, six to eight times as many gadgets were connected simultaneously than before while service quality was significantly enhanced.
“We are monitoring the performance of our systems providing free wireless internet connection on an ongoing basis so that our passengers could smoothly use the airport Wi-Fi without any interruption,” Attila Horváth, head of IT at Budapest Airport said. He also pointed out that “today’s passengers expect this as a basic service, and it is good news that with the system that has been commissioned the quality of the signal is excellent throughout the terminal.”
