In 1995, SPAR established a new category of commercial outlet in Hungary by opening its first Interpar hypermarket in the country. 20 years ago, it was great novelty here to have a shopping center with department store, bank, travel agency and restaurant.
That first Interspar was established in an area what used to be a textile factory in the northwestern Hungarian city of Gyõr.
As competitors followed suit, nowadays, there are 163 hypermarkets all over Hungary, including 32 Interspar stores, the latest of which opened in the south-central town of Szekszárd, while the 33rd is to be built soon in the town of Érd, just south of Budapest.
