Parcel terminal operator Foxpost, a member of Czech Packeta group, is investing around EUR 2 millon to double capacity at its sorting facility in Fót, on the outskirts of the capital, the company has said in a statement. An automated sorting line will boost hourly capacity to 12,000-14,000 from 7,200 packages when it starts operating in October.
The new automated production line installed at the Fót logistics center makes package processing faster and more accurate, reduces the risk of sorting errors, makes package handling safer, and lowers the chance of damage to shipments. As part of the investment, the company is also modernizing the surveillance system at the Fót depot; by installing new cameras, it is enhancing operational security and the traceability of shipments, the company announced.
The 101-meter-long production line is capable of processing 12,000 to 14,000 packages per hour, compared to the previous hourly capacity of approximately 7,200 packages. The system can operate continuously for up to 20 hours a day, making it easier to handle unexpected traffic spikes.
The equipment uses barcode and QR code identification, scanning packages with five cameras from five different angles before automatically routing them to the appropriate delivery path. The system performs sorting via 118 chutes, which serve the various delivery routes within Foxpost’s nationwide network.
The company also noted that the new production line will not completely replace manual labor. In the future, the machine will handle the processing of smaller packages, while employees will still be needed to operate and monitor the system, as well as to manually process large, heavy, or special-handling shipments. As a result of this separate handling, these packages will receive greater attention, which will improve the quality of package handling, the company noted.
The commissioning of the new production line will be preceded by a testing period lasting several weeks; it is scheduled to begin operating at full capacity in October.
Foxpost is a member of the Packeta Group, one of Hungary’s leading parcel locker service providers. The company’s former Hungarian owners sold it in June 2024 to a consortium of financial investors that also owns the Czech parcel delivery company Packeta, a transaction that was approved by the competition authority a few months later. Foxpost’s nationwide network in Hungary includes 5,000 parcel lockers and pickup points.
