GE Vernova Upgrades Hungarian Base

The US-owned energy equipment manufacturing and services company GE Vernova is upgrading its base in Veresegyház, on the outskirts of the capital.

According to the announcement, the upgrade includes a large-scale solar park development, the installation of new production lines, and the commissioning of high-performance, precision machinery.

A solar farm is being built at the site to increase energy independence; in addition, new, more efficient production lines are being set up in the framework of a USD 24.5 million investment.

The base is hiring up to 80 more professionals, including machinists, welders, fitters and assembly operators, to support expanded capacity, after onboarding around 100 new employees in 2025.

To support the long-term sustainability of operations, the solar panel installation is being implemented in several phases as part of the renovation of the Veresegyház site. In the first phase, a 2 MW solar-powered parking canopy covering more than 500 parking spaces was successfully completed.

In the second phase, currently underway, a photovoltaic (PV) panel system with a total capacity of 14.5 MW, as well as a battery energy storage system with a capacity of 40 MWh, is being installed. This phase involves more than 21,000 solar panels covering an area of more than 15 hectares; grid connection is expected to take place this fall.

Once fully operational, the integrated renewable energy system will enable nearly 50 percent of the site’s current annual electricity consumption – totaling 33 GWh – to be covered by emission-free, renewable energy.

GE Vernova Inc.'s plant in Veresegyház is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year and is now the company's largest Gas Power manufacturing facility outside the United States. The company announced this modernization project to mark the anniversary.
