Hungerit Plc. has expanded its production capacity at a cost of around HUF four billion in the past year, the company informed MTI on the occasion of the centenary of the start of industrial poultry processing in Szentes, SE Hungary.
According to the statement, the new breading plant was launched in October last year, increasing the volume of products produced to 11,000 tons per year, making them the largest domestic producers in this segment. A similar increase in volume was achieved with the investment in the duck frying plant in Szentes, where production of two million ducks was increased by a further one million.
Hungerit's duck slaughtering capacity is currently one of the largest in Europe and they are also a major player in chicken processing, which they have made even more efficient by recently adapting their workflow to market needs. The plant now processes 20 million chickens a year, from where the company currently exports its products to more than 20 countries. The most important of these are the English, German, Romanian, Austrian and Czech markets.
Hungerit Zrt., which employs almost 2,000 people, is currently preparing new investments, with plans for plant conversions and upgrades in both its chicken and duck sectors, as well as plant acquisitions, while the most significant investment in the coming period will be the construction of a new chicken slaughterhouse. Construction is scheduled to start next year. The new plant will be able to slaughter 40 million chickens per year, using state-of-the-art technology.
Hungerit Plc., based in Szentes, has been a strategic partner of the Bonafarm Group since 2018. According to publicly available company data, the company achieved a net sales revenue of HUF 52.572 billion last year, almost 24% higher than in 2020, 45% of which came from exports. The company's profit after tax last year was HUF 6.987 billion, following a loss of HUF 2.246 billion in 2020.
The first poultry processing plant in Szentes started its operations in 1922 with 100 employees and quickly grew to become one of the most important companies supplying the Hungarian and European markets with fresh, quality products between the two world wars.
Szentes was the first industrial producer of poultry sausage in Hungary and the first to produce ready-roasted, breaded poultry products in 1990. Today, the company, which has undergone several changes of ownership, continues to pay particular attention to innovation, product development and modernization, and is constantly introducing new high-quality poultry products to the market under the Valdor brand.
