Logistics service provider Gebrüder Weiss Ltd. is expanding the capacity of its central logistics base with a HUF 10 billion investment, the company told the state news agency MTI on Thursday.
According to the information, a new hall and complex of 10,500 square meters will be built in Dunaharaszti, south of Budapest, next to the existing 23,000-square-meter warehouse complex, within a year.
The development will take into account sustainability requirements. The photovoltaic installations on the roofs of the warehouses will contribute to meeting the needs of electric forklift and e-truck charging stations. The building will be tempered by a heat pump system and the lighting will be energy efficient LED lights," they point out.
Gebrüder Weiss recalled that as part of the most comprehensive development program in the company's 32-year history in Hungary, two new sites of 2,500 square meters each were built in Zalaegerszeg and Pécs last year, and a 2,900-square-meter hall in Polgár and Szeged at the beginning of this year.
With these developments, the company has established nationwide coverage. In Vecsés, Biatorbágy, Szigetszentmiklós and Győr, the service remains unchanged, with the latter expected to start another HUF 2 billion investment in 2024, bringing the company's Hungarian sites to 90,000 square meters.
According to the statement, the company's sales revenue increased by 15% in the first nine months of this year compared to the same period last year, reaching HUF 19.5 billion. To staff the site network, the number of employees increased by almost 8% to 480 at the beginning of October.
According to publicly available company data, Gebrüder Weiss Transport and Logistics Ltd. had net sales of HUF 28.73 billion in 2021, up from HUF 22.01 billion in the previous year, and a profit after tax of HUF 1.39 billion, up from HUF 769 million in 2020.
Gebrüder Weiss Holding AG, based in Lauterach, Austria, is a global full-service logistics company with around 8,000 employees and 180 company-owned sites. The company's annual turnover last year was EUR 2.5 billion, according to preliminary figures. The company's portfolio includes transport and logistics solutions, digital services and supply chain management.
