Biodegradable Foam Producer Doubles Production

AMCO Packaging Technology and Consultation Ltd., a Hungarian manufacturer of GreenFill biodegradable space-filling foam for use in boxes, will double its capacity to 100,000 liters in November, the company told the state news agency MTI.

The statement drew attention to the serious environmental impact of petroleum-derived polystyrene foam fillers, noting that demand for environmentally friendly products is growing significantly. The company has therefore decided to double its production capacity at its Bács-Kiskun County site by November.

The environmentally friendly GreenFill – the material used to fill the air space in boxes – is produced from corn starch by extruding the raw material, contains no synthetic ingredients and has no harmful environmental impact, they said.

The company is the only one in Hungary to produce the material for filling the air space in boxes using renewable technology.

Kálmán Magyar, the company's managing director, said that the space-filling foam made from corn starch is water-soluble and compostable, so it does not generate waste, and because it is very lightweight, it does not significantly affect the weight of the package, and thanks to its shape, it perfectly surrounds the products and is not electrostatic.

He added that the product is available in several color variations, which allows it to be used for branding by different brands.

AMCO Packaging Technology and Consultancy Ltd. has been present on the market for 30 years. Today, they also have production facilities in Transylvania, Romania and Vojvodina, Serbia.

According to publicly available company data, they employed 24 people in the 2020 financial year and 23 in 2021. The company's annual net sales were HUF 703 million in 2020, increasing to HUF 1 billion and 73 million in 2021, and its profit after tax was HUF 5.27 million in 2020 and HUF 14.75 million in 2021.
