With cooperation between Startup Campus and the Hungarian Export Promotion Agency (HEPA), three Hungarian startups made their appearance during the five-day intensive development tour of the Asia FinTech Roadshow, touching the forefront of global financial innovation in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta. Participating companies Brokerchooser, Péntech and Scolvo all returned home with hopes of long-term Asian cooperation.
The tour kicked off with the Singapore Fintech Festival, one of the world's largest financial technology events attracting 60,000 visitors, partnering with the Committee of European Economic Cooperation’s (CEEC) Singapore division to represent Hungary at the regional stand. Besides the festival, the ‘CEEC and Singapore: Partners in Innovation and Talent‘ event organized on the second day also provided networking opportunities with potential partners such as international law firm and host C’M’S, local venture capitalist Expara or Deutsche Bank.
The second stop of the roadshow was in Kuala Lumpur, where MaGIC, one of Asia’s largest accelerators, was introduced to the ecosystem and the market of the delegation on its fourth ‘demo day’. In addition, the delegation was received by leaders of corporate giants such as ProEchoes, Kenanga and Rakuten, providing them opportunities to negotiate at the local Hungarian Embassy. The visit to Kuala Lumpur concluded with a joint consultation of MDEC Malaysian scale-up program and FinTech Association of Malaysia, where they agreed on regional expansion opportunities.
The delegation concluded its tour in Jakarta, where the teams presented to the guests at a business breakfast organized by the local embassy. The event was a great opportunity not only for business development, but also to find investors and collaborate with local startups, as Telekom Indonesia, the largest telecoms accelerator, had also brought three similar teams from its portfolio specially for this purpose.
