The meat processing company Hungerit Plc. is investing EUR 97.6 million in a modern greenfield chicken slaughtering and processing facility in Szentes, SE Hungary, the Hungarian Investment Promotion Agency (HIPA) report.
Spanning 23,000 square meters, the facility will significantly expand the company’s broiler operations in Szentes, allowing it to double its annual processing capacity from 2026.
Headquartered in Szentes, Hungerit Plc. is one of Hungary’s oldest meat industry firms, with over 100 years of experience in poultry processing and meat production. The company processes approximately 22 million broiler chickens and 11 million ducks annually, producing 70,000 tons of meat products. Its flagship brand, VALDOR, offers primarily processed and breaded, ready-to-cook products to both domestic and international markets.
As part of the Bonafarm Group, Hungerit Plc. has chosen to build an advanced facility to meet rising and evolving consumer demands. The greenfield investment will result in a state-of-the-art chicken processing plant equipped with innovative technologies. Located in the Szentes Industrial Park, production is expected to commence in the second half of 2026, doubling the company’s annual poultry processing capacity to 44 million birds per year.
The food industry plays a pivotal role in Hungary’s economy, employing 145,000 people. Promoting Hungarian-owned enterprises remains a cornerstone of Hungary’s economic strategy. Between 2014 and 2024, HIPA facilitated 287 food industry investments, driving EUR 3.88 billion in investments.
