South Korea’s food industry giant, CJ Foods, has chosen Hungary as the site for its first Central and Eastern European production facility. The company, renowned for its global production and distribution of staple foods, appetizers, and ready-made meals, has chosen Dunavarsány for this EUR 80 million greenfield project. The plant and logistics center set to commence operations with 200 employees in the second half of 2026, the Hungarian Investment Promotion Agency (HIPA) reports.
CJ Foods is the global food division of the South Korean enterprise, CJ Group. Its product portfolio is inspired by the authentic and complex flavors of traditional Korean cuisine.
Operating more than 60 facilities worldwide, CJ Foods considers Korea and the United States as its primary markets, but it anticipates robust growth in East Asia and Europe. Responding to increasing demand, the company has decided to expand its manufacturing capacity in Europe by establishing a new plant in Dunavarsány, Hungary, complementing its existing operations in Germany.
The economic relationship between Hungary and South Korea has seen significant growth in recent years, with South Korea now being the third-largest investor in Hungary in terms of foreign direct investment. By reinforcing this trend, CJ Foods is establishing a new site in Dunavarsány, spanning 14,000 square meters — roughly the size of 16 football fields.
This EUR 80 million investment will include a ready-meal production plant and a logistics center. The products manufactured in Dunavarsány, such as stuffed and frozen dumplings and ready-to-eat chicken items, will be exported to Germany, the United Kingdom, France, the Netherlands, and Belgium. Beyond boosting Hungary’s food export capacity, CJ Foods aims to support the local economy by sourcing materials and packaging from regional suppliers, benefiting local farmers and SMEs alike.
