Leapmotor's network in Hungary is expanding rapidly, with 10 dealerships and service centers already dealing with the Chinese car brand since its market entry was announced in June this year. The goal is to achieve nationwide coverage, according to Emil Frey Hungary, which is responsible for importing the vehicles.
Leapmotor has registered nearly 80 cars in Hungary over the past four months, with orders already reaching 130, according to the results for the first half of the year. The Chinese manufacturer, which is trying to gain a share of the European electric vehicle market with state-of-the-art technology and competitive prices, has also burst onto the Hungarian market in the city mini car segment and is seeking a place in the extremely popular C-SUV segment with its additional models. Two new models will be launched on the market next year.In Hungary, 28% of new electric passenger cars sold currently belong to the C-SUV segment, with 37 brands competing for buyers in this category with 74 models.
Leapmotor is an emerging car manufacturer founded in 2015, which began selling its electric vehicles in 2019. It is now present in 30 markets and has sold more than one million cars worldwide to date. The Stellantis group acquired a 20% stake in the company in 2023. In September 2024, Leapmotor International B.V., a joint venture established under the leadership of Stellantis, began operations in Europe, with Stellantis N.V. holding a 51% stake and Leapmotor holding 49%. The number of dealerships and service partners in Europe has already reached 600.
The Hungarian Emil Frey Group is a member of the Swiss-based Emil Frey AG group of companies. It is the importer of ten brands of the Stellantis automotive group in Hungary, offering around 100 different models, including light commercial vehicles. It has more than 100 contractual partners – dealerships and service centers – throughout the country.
According to previous information from Country Manager György Balkány, Emil Frey Hungary sold around 11,000 vehicles in 2024 and is expected to sell 12,500 this year. The importer's sales revenue in 2024 approached HUF 125 billion.
