India-based automotive supplier Motherson is expanding its activities in Hungary with a series of investments, including a research and development program and the establishment of a business services center, the Hungarian Investment Promotion Agency (HIPA) reports.
Motherson’s EUR 54 million Hungarian R&D project deals with AI-based sensors and advanced visual systems integrated into rear-view mirrors. The investment is set to create 55 new jobs for automotive product development professionals, who will work, among others, on wide-angle Head-Up Display (HUD) solutions for trucks and commercial vehicles. Hungarian universities are also involved in the project, and the related patents will be registered in Hungary.
In a separate investment, Motherson is setting up a regional business services center to support factories across the Eastern part of Europe with financial, engineering, procurement, IT, and other services. The EUR 8.076 million project is expected to create 99 new jobs.
The group, which has been operating in Hungary since 2009, is also developing its extensive local production network. Its latest EUR 33.3 million investment expands manufacturing and logistics capacity in four local plants to supply the Hungarian factory of BMW and Mercedes-Benz with rear-view mirrors and other components.
The total volume of the three investments is EUR 95.4 million, and together, they are xpected to create 154 jobs for highly qualified employees. All three projects are supported by Hungarian taxpayers through HIPA with close to a quarter of the amount of the total investment.
