Nestlé Factory in Szerencs Expanded with New Solar Park

Nestlé's factory in Szerencs, NE Hungary will be expanded with a new solar park with an annual capacity of 1.5 gigawatts with an investment of more than HUF 700 million with 45% support by the National Investment Promotion Agency (HIPA), the company told MTI on Friday.

The system will come on stream in March next year at Nestlé's regional coffee and cocoa powder production and filling center in Central Europe, and will cover around 30% of the Szerencs plant's electricity needs and almost 21% of its total energy needs. The energy generated by the new solar park would be sufficient for the annual consumption of up to 650-700 households.

According to the announcement, Nestlé Hungária Ltd. has invested a total of HUF 9 billion in the last few years in the 100-year-old factory in Szerencs, where new jobs have been created through the continuous modernization of production.

The plant currently employs 500 workers and has an annual production capacity of 40,000 tons.

Nestlé is a more than 150-year-old food company with a presence in 189 countries around the world, employing more than 2,800 people in its three factories in Hungary – in Szerencs and Miskolc (Diósgyőr) also in NE Hungary and Bük in the western part of the country – and its headquarters in Budapest.

The Swiss company has been present in Hungary for more than 30 years, and most of Nestlé Hungária's suppliers are Hungarian companies, selling products and services worth a total of HUF 54 billion annually to Nestlé's global network, they wrote.

According to public company data, Nestlé Hungária Ltd. had net sales of HUF 283.3 billion last year, compared with HUF 246.5 billion two years ago. The company posted a profit after tax of HUF 2.764 billion in 2023 and HUF 3.361 billion in 2022.
