The expansion of the Japanese automotive industry supplier firm Hi-Lex further increases Hungary's automotive influence on the global market.

Hi-Lex, a Japanese manufacturer of automotive parts, has over 80 years of experience. At its facility in Rétság, the company produces door modules, window regulators, and brake and gearshift cables, while continuously enhancing its competitiveness through an innovative approach.

The Hi-Lex expansion, valued at EUR 6.33 million, and energy efficiency improvements enable the production of door modules required for the BMW electric models being manufactured in Debrecen. The technology used is based on a European Hi-Lex patent, which was first validated for the BMW project. This expansion not only increases production capacity but also created 30 new jobs in the region.

As part of the project, close to 20% of which is paid for by Hungarian taxpyers through a government decision, two 1,500-ton injection molding machines were installed, enabling the local production of insulated door panels. Additionally, a semi-automated production and preparation line, material handling equipment, and new packaging solutions were introduced. Along with measuring instruments, the hardware and software infrastructure was also modernized. As part of the investment, a new 2,000-square-meter hall was built, and a 0.49 MW solar power system was installed on the roof of the facility.

The company placed a strong emphasis on involving local suppliers, with 25% of machine purchases and 100% of construction work sourced from Hungarian suppliers.

85% of Hi-Lex's products are now used in electric and hybrid vehicles. The company’s partners include Audi, BMW, Ford, Suzuki, Toyota, Škoda, Volvo, Mitsubishi, and Land Rover. Hi-Lex operates in 19 countries and runs 50 manufacturing plants worldwide.
