Gyermelyi Plc. inaugurated a new mill northwest of Budapest on Friday with an investment of more than HUF 6.5 billion, creating the largest single-site milling enterprise in Hungary. The Hungarian government provided HUF 1.7 billion, that is, over a quarter of the invested amount, in non-refundable state funding.
The new mill is capable of grinding 300 tons of soft wheat per day. With this development, the grinding capacity of Gyermelyi Plc. will increase to 800 tons per day, together with the capacity of the two existing mills. This will enable the plant to serve foreign customers in addition to supplying the company’s pasta factory and Hungarian partners.
After the construction of the mill, a HUF 3 billion development will increase the grain storage capacity, with a 40,000-ton grain storage system to be completed by the summer.
The group operates a completely closed production line for its products, which is unique in Europe. The crop sector, which is the basis for the production of flour, covers 8,200 hectares and will bring together 250 producers.
Gyermelyi Plc. is also the market leader in egg production in Hungary. Its farms currently produce 140 million eggs a year, part of which is sold as shell eggs and the rest is used as fresh eggs in the pasta factory, up to 700,000 eggs a day.
The pasta factory is one of the largest and most modern in Central and Eastern Europe. Its nominal capacity reaches 70,000 tons per year. In 2022, the plant produced nearly 42,000 tons of pasta, more than 35% of which was sold abroad.
