Indian-owned automotive supplier Motherson Group has invested around EUR 16 million to develop its Hungarian sites in Győr, Mosonmagyaróvár, Mosonszolnok and Túrkeve, and has expanded its Kecskemét plant with a new hall. More than a third of the investment will be covered by Hungarian taxpayers due to a government decision.
The new hall, which was built on the site of the Kecskemét plant of Samvardhana Motherson Peguform (SMP), a member of the group, was inaugurated this Monday. The group has made six investments in Hungary in the last twelve years, five of which are production units, one of the most important being the new hall in Kecskemét, east-central Hungary.
Based on the positive experience of the initial years, the Motherson Group decided to further expand its activities in Hungary, and thus, the Kecskemét site was built and inaugurated in 2017, one of the company's largest investments. The Group says it strives for excellence and therefore produces very high quality automotive components in Kecskemét.
According to the company, the most significant element of the current investment in Hungary is the Kecskemét site, where production capacity has been increased by almost 9,000 square meters thanks to the logistics hall built as part of the greenfield investment.
According to a company press release, Samvardhana Motherson Group (SMG), founded in 1975, has become one of the world's fastest growing automotive component manufacturers. Its business portfolio covers a wide range of products: cabs, bumper covers, rear view mirrors, camera systems, lighting systems, interior and exterior trim, wiring systems, air conditioning systems and off-road cabs. The Group also manufactures cooling systems, machined and sintered metal components, elastomeric components, cutting tools, metal coatings and injection molding tools, as well as providing a full range of information technology (IT) and design engineering services to various industrial segments.
