This Thursday, Budapest Airport welcomed its one millionth passenger in a single month, for the first time in its history. Tamás Hadik and his wife, disembarking from the Qatar Airways flight from Doha, were in for a special surprise as the passenger count reached one million in July.
In July
this year, the number of passengers at the Hungarian capital airport exceeded
the magical one million threshold in a month for the first time. Stepping off
the aircraft, Tamás Hadik and Orsolya Káli, a Hungarian couple, was welcomed by
the representatives of Budapest Airport and Qatar Airways, as they became the
one millionth passengers of the airport this July.
The lucky
passengers were greeted by Jost Lammers, the CEO of Budapest Airport and Grisha
Jenkov, regional manager for Qatar Airways, who surprised the couple with a
gift pack worth a total of one million forints, during an improvised ceremony
held in the middle of the terminal. The lucky family received a free booking
from Qatar Airways to any destination in its route network, whilst the CEO of
the airport operator handed over an exclusive airport service package, a
voucher and gift items.
A
communiqué by Budapest Airport says it has never had one million passengers in
a single month in its history before. The airport produced nearly 12% growth
during the first half of 2015, which means almost half a million more aerial
passengers for Budapest and Hungarian tourism than in the previous year.
Even
according to cautious forecasts, another record year is expected. The
management of Budapest Airport, working hand in hand with airline
decision-makers, has made huge efforts over the past few years to launch new
flights and to link more and more cities with the Hungarian capital.
Budapest
Airport CEO commented by saying that “reaching yet another mystical threshold
is a huge achievement for us. Last year, we celebrated our nine millionth
passenger in a year, and now, in July, we have handled more than a million passengers
in the space of a single month. We are doing everything we can to keep Budapest
Airport as the most dynamically growing travel destination in the CEE region,
and to ensure that business and leisure travelers, foreign investors and
business partners should look upon Budapest and Hungary as an attractive
location.”
