The groundbreaking ceremony this Friday marked the latest phase of Schneider Electric’s EUR 40 million investment in Dunavecse, central Hungary, as a result of which a smart factory will be set up to manufacture medium voltage electrical switchgears. The project will boost supply to state-of-the-art energy management and industry automation solutions, thus can contribute to an elevated level of large-scale energy efficiency, according to the Hungarian Investment Promotion Agency (HIPA).
The world leader in electricity distribution and energy management as well as industrial automation and their digitalization, French-owned Schneider Electric has built out a presence in Hungary since 1991 and employs around 2,000 people. The company currently has four factories and a regional logistics center in the country. Its commercial, sales and customer service center and the European HQ of its energy and sustainability service center are located in Budapest. The Hungarian capital further hosts Schneider Electric’s hub providing global financial and procurement services.
Now the company’s fifth Hungary-based plant under the name Duna Smart Power Systems broke ground in Dunavecse where medium voltage electrical switchgears will be produced by using state-of-the-art industrial technology. The new site will allow Schneider Electric to ramp up production that is currently done in Kunszentmiklós.
The 25,000 square meter smart factory will operate in a fully carbon neutral manner. Hundreds of new jobs will be created, and by 2025 up to 500 highly qualified colleagues will be employed at the facility. Production is scheduled to launch in 2024.
The company counts on a surge in demand for electricity-based solutions, the proliferation of green energy as well as energy efficiency developments. Equipment made in the new smart factory will serve this development too.
