The Japanese Seiren Group has set up a new plant in Pécs for over EUR 42 million to manufacture synthetic leather car seat covers. 30% of the investment costs are borne by Hungarian taxpayers through a government decision.

The site is the first one ever established by the company in Europe where 170 people will be employed.

Seiren was established in 1923, and the 100-year-old listed company that specializes, among others, on production of technical textile has presence in 9 countries worldwide outside Japan.

The Hungarian operation has been established thanks to an investment of more than EUR 42 million where synthetic leather car seat covers will be made. The construction was completed on schedule, and now trial production is underway already, with serial production scheduled to launch in the summer.

The plant in Pécs, a city located 200 km south from Budapest, comprises of a production hall of nearly 28,000 sqm with an annual capacity of 2,400,000 meters.

As the Hungarian Investment Promotion Agency (HIPA) notes, Japan forms the seventh largest investor community in Hungary, accounting for 3.9% of the total FDI stock in value of USD 4 billion.
