Spar Hungary has upgraded its Perbál meat plant with an investment of more than HUF one billion, which together with the Bicske meat plant can claim one of the most modern food production sites in Central Europe, the supermarket chain informed MTI on Wednesday.
In 2021 and 2022, as part of the HUF 1.1 billion investment, the auxiliary materials warehouse was expanded, where new shelving was installed, the entire machinery was transformed, a new rubbing generator was purchased, the equipment washing rooms were expanded, the lighting was modernized and an economical and environmentally friendly CO₂-based cooling system was installed, meeting today's expectations.
The works were completed on schedule in the second half of 2022. Thanks to the renovation, the Perbál site has not only been renovated – floor repairs, expansion of the auxiliary materials warehouse, modernization of lighting, replacement of sliding doors – but also has an enlarged meeting room, renovated office toilets, a new staff canteen and a new kitchen with a serving area," the Head of Communications at Spar Hungary, Márk Maczelka highlighted
Spar's meat plant in Bicske started 19 years ago with 70 employees, while nowadays nearly 500 people work in the plants in Bicske and Perbál, while the production volume has increased 120 times the initial quantity. Last year, the Bicske plant had a net turnover of HUF 53 billion, while the Perbál plant had a turnover of more than HUF 8 billion. The two units processed more than 1.5 million kilograms of deboned beef and nearly 30 million kilograms of deboned pork, and produced 38.7 kilograms of private label products in 2022. The products coming out of Regnum Meat Plants are continuously tested by Spar in its own self-monitoring factory laboratories and by independent accredited laboratories to ensure that they meet the highest food safety and quality standards, the document said.
Spar Hungary achieved gross sales of HUF 915.7 billion in 2022, 15.6% more than the previous year. The company operated 623 stores at the end of 2022, of which 248 were franchises. The number of employees was around 14,000, with an additional 3,200 people working in franchise stores. Spar Hungary spent HUF 149 billion on investments in the last five years, including HUF 31 billion last year.
