LIBERTY Dunaújváros, Hungary's largest steel producer, which was acquired by LIBERTY Steel Group in October 2023, has restarted production, according to a company press release.
The company is continuously expanding production in order to serve its customers in Hungary and Europe at the highest possible level as soon as possible, the European President of LIBERTY Steel Group, Ajay Aggarwal is quoted in the release as saying.
He added that this is the first step in the renewal of the company, which will benefit not only Liberty Dunaújváros and its employees, but the whole community of the town of Dunaújváros.
This is part of LIBERTY Dunaújváros's 100-day program, which, in addition to the ongoing capacity expansion, will adapt the company to operate more efficiently, preparing it for the expected market recovery. This includes reducing unjustified operational costs, resulting in less use of external services than before. An optimal product mix is developed and production schedules are set to match expected market demand.
During the restructuring process, LIBERTY Dunaújváros will retain its staff, pay salaries and start retraining courses in the first half of the year to prepare employees for the operation of the higher-tech electric furnaces (for which LIBERTY signed an agreement with its Chinese partner in the fall of 2023).
