Terrán Ltd. is further developing the Generon solar roof replacement in cooperation with the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, with a total project cost of HUF 827.772 million, the company told MTI on Tuesday.
According to the statement, the project aims to further develop the Terrán solar modules integrated into roof tiles and to expand the product range and maintain competitiveness. With the improvements, the product will have better characteristics and will operate with improved efficiency.
In addition to the current black solar panel color, the company plans to introduce terracotta solar roof tiles to meet the needs of a wider range of customers and to expand the potential uses of the product. A prototype of the color Generon solar roof tile has already been completed and is expected to be launched this year.
It is also planned to develop a new type of smart solar roof tile with a microinverter per module. This innovative solution will allow the system to be retrofitted as required and will not stop generating energy if one module fails.
The R&D project, launched in November 2020, will run until 1 November 2023. The National Research, Development and Innovation Fund (NKFIA) contributed HUF 422.478 million to the development.
The company told MTI that its production capacity is around 550 000 solar roof tiles per year. The company sold 52,000 Generon solar roof tiles in 2021 and more than 100,000 last year, with most of the products sold domestically.
According to publicly available company data, Terrán Ltd. increased its net sales to HUF 19.351 billion in 2021 from HUF 13.186 billion a year earlier. The company closed 2021 with a profit of 2.612 billion forints, compared to a profit after tax of 1.358 billion forints in 2020.
