There have been reports that production at the Mercedes factory in Kecskemét will be halted for several weeks. The local news site hirös.hu contacted the company last week, and today, Mercedes-Benz Manufacturing Hungary Ltd. replied to the enquiry.
As they write, “we are currently experiencing supplier difficulties in the supply of certain semiconductor components worldwide, the cessation of which cannot be predicted at this time. Due to the constantly changing situation on the semiconductor market, we continue to plan ahead only as far as the situation allows. We have close relationships with both direct and semiconductor suppliers. The great flexibility of the Mercedes-Benz plants enables us to react as quickly as possible to such changes. We continue to treat the Mercedes-EQ electric offensive as a project of the utmost importance.”
The company statement adds that “the Mercedes-Benz plant in Kecskemét will adapt to the current situation by flexibly adjusting the production program in calendar week 30 and the subsequent summer production break in calendar weeks 31 and 32. Our company uses this period for maintenance activities and to prepare for the series production of the new model.”
