Liv Hospital Group, Turkey's leading private hospital chain, will take over the operation of Duna Medical Center, which plays a prominent role in private care, the Turkish-backed company’s announcement is quoted by the financial website portfolio.hu.
The facility will continue to operate under the name Liv Hospital Duna Medical Center (Liv Hospital DMC) as the eighth member of the Liv Hospital Group. According to the announcement, "the existing and incoming know-how and the planned investment will help it to become not only the market leader in Hungary but also the market leader in the region and the leading private hospital in Europe."
As a result of the transaction, Liv Hospital Group will own the management rights and will implement a significant investment program to achieve its objectives. The transaction comes after Duna Medical Center, which was the 8th largest private hospital by revenue in Hungary last year, suffered a severe capital loss.
The statement recalls that the Turkish company, Liv Hospital Group – with some 30 years of hospital management and operation experience – is a dominant player in the Turkish private healthcare market and was also the market leader in health tourism in 2022. And with the current transaction, the Group's goal is that "Liv Hospital Duna Medical Center will be a reference institution of the highest international standards in the region and throughout Europe within one to two years."
In the transaction, the Turkish company has built on the existing assets of the Duna Medical Center building, which is almost unique in Hungary in having been designed and built recently specifically as a hospital building. The 12-storey clinic, with a floor area of almost 20,000 square meters, has an outpatient department with all medical specialties, inpatient care with seven well-equipped operating theaters, intensive care capacity and a 130-bed inpatient department at full capacity. By enhancing existing services and introducing new ones, the new hospital will become the most complex private healthcare institution in the Hungarian market," the statement said.
