Vajda-Papír, the leading Hungarian-owned manufacturer in the market of hygienic paper products, has announced the investment totaling HUF 16 billion investment at a digital foundation ceremony.
According to the announcement, the investment project will help retain 600 workplaces and create 50 new jobs. The Hungarian government will provide HUF 5.5 billion, about a third of the amount invested.
The new plant is scheduled to start operations in March 2022, thanks to which the group’s production capacity could increase by 50% to 70,000 tons. In addition to the construction of the new plant hall, a base paper production line will also be put into operation, thus, the investment will increase capacity to provide self-produced raw materials for the company's hygiene products, which is a strategic advantage for the company, the company's managing director, Attila Vajda pointed out. He emphasized that the Vajda-Papír's annual production of hygienic base paper far exceeds domestic needs, so Hungary can be self-sufficient in these products, even with the increased demand during the coronavirus epidemic.
Since the start of epidemic, the company has increased its production of an average of 2 million rolls per day to 3 million for toilet paper products, with a 20% increase in paper towels and a 10% increase in paper tissues.
A Hungarian family uses nine kilograms of hygienic paper products a year, so the company group can meet the hygienic paper needs of 13 million people in an average year. In addition to sales in Hungary, the company's hygienic paper products are delivered to Scandinavia, the Baltics and more than 20 countries in Central and Eastern Europe. In 2013, the company also opened a subsidiary employing over a hundred people in Norway.
