Vimpex to Take Over Nestlé Chocolate Figurines Factory

Nestlé Hungária announced on Friday that it has reached an agreement with Vimpex Group which will take over Nestlé’s factory in Diósgyőr, a part of the city of Miskolc (NE Hungary). The Swiss-based multinational announced this summer that it would close its Miskolc facility at the end of the year.

In a statement, Nestlé informed the press that the transaction will allow confectionery production to continue at the plant in the future as the Vimpex Group has committed to production starting early next year, the statement said.

Nestlé had previously informed media outlets that it was discontinuing the production of hollow chocolate figures due to a decline in demand; the Diósgyőr plant, which employs 220 people, accounted for less than 3% of Nestlé Hungária Ltd.’s revenue.

According to this Friday’s announcement, under an agreement reached between Nestlé and the Vimpex Group, at least one-third of the factory’s workers will continue to be employed. For those who must leave the factory, Nestlé will provide benefits that are more favorable than those stipulated in the Labor Code, as set forth in its collective bargaining agreement, and will assist them in finding new employment.

They added that, in accordance with the agreement reached with the union, Nestlé will award a special bonus to employees who remain on the payroll through the end of the year, in light of the transitional period. In recognition of the employees’ loyalty, they will receive a one-time payment equivalent to 5 to 11.5 months’ base salary, depending on the length of their employment at Nestlé, the company announced.

The statement quotes Péter Noszek, managing director of Nestlé Hungária, who confirmed that the sale of the Diósgyőr plant does not alter the company’s commitment to Hungary; thus, developments will continue at the Szerencs and Bük plants, and the company will “strengthen its presence in Hungary in the long term.”

Nestlé Hungária has been operating in Hungary for 35 years. During this period, it has invested nearly HUF 400 billion from its own capital, making Nestlé the largest Swiss investor and employer in Hungary. According to a PwC analysis, 0.5 percent of Hungary’s GDP is attributable to Nestlé’s domestic operations. The company’s revenue in 2025 was HUF 349 billion, less than 3% of which came from operations at the Diósgyőr plant, the press release states.
