Wolt's own "delivery-only-stores", i.e. the stores with only home delivery, Wolt Market, will be launched in Hungary in the fall of this year, It is planned to open first in Budapest and then in several provincial in several towns and cities, which will operate as separate stores alongside other retail partners.
In addition to food delivery, the aim of the retail business is to expand the distribution of food with even faster home delivery.
Wolt will become a standalone retail platform for Wolt Market. The traditional, i.e. third-party stores and restaurant delivery is a new home delivery alternative for the purchase of goods to consumers. Wolt Market operates as a delivery-only store, meaning that products are only available for home delivery. Last year, the company has launched Wolt Market in most of the countries where it operates, including Hungary.
Wolt Market will launch in the Hungarian market with more than 2,500 products, with immediate delivery of products from grocery stores and drugstores and will be active in the wholesale and retail of goods. "This does not mean, however, that the business approach to our retail partners will change. It is on the contrary, we are aware that our cooperation is the key to our success and will therefore always remain a priority for us. In Finland, the expanding segment means that even more users use the application, which has clearly increased the number of our users, and this is a benefit for all our partners," said Ákos Tajta, CEO of Wolt.
Retail orders account for almost 20% of Wolt's orders in some countries and this share is gradually increasing. Delivering food to restaurants and opening new cities and locations will continue to play a key role in Wolt's business policy.
"The key aim and development is to deliver as fast as possible. Wolt's advantage over the big chains has always been its speed in small shop and restaurant orders, allowing the goods to be delivered to the customer in as little as half an hour. Wolt Market will help to further improve this speed," added Ákos Tajta.
In each market, Wolt will set up teams that will be responsible for the Wolt Market. It will be an independent company on an equal footing with the other retail partners. The development will not only involve new recruiting new team members, but in the long term, it will be a way of working with couriers with the delivery drivers.
