Hungarian venture capital investor Ottó Albrecht purchased a PCR diagnostic equipment, the use of which is currently the safest means of detecting coronavirus infection, for the Heim Pál National Pediatric Institute in Budapest to treat new waves of the epidemic, napi.hu reports.
The most reliable way to detect a coronavirus infection is through so-called PCR technology, which detects the pathogen and its genetic material in the body, not just the antibody itself, even a few days after the infection.
The new equipment is capable of extracting nucleic acids from a variety of samples, including respiratory sample types, and this isolated RNA is required for further PCR-based assays. This tool therefore allows coronavirus tests to be performed locally in a short time.
Of course, this high-value equipment alone is not not enough to perform a PCR test - laboratory conditions and virological diagnostic expertise are also needed to perform the tests immediately and safely. Heim Pál Hospital has the right knowledge and many young children are waiting for recovery. That is why Ottó Albrecht decided to donate the HUF 12 million asset to this institute.
