The 10th Anniversary MikuLÁSS [a Hungarian pun made up from Mikulás, that is Santa Claus, and LÁSS, that is Be able to see!] Charity Run was held on Margaret Island this Sunday.
The some 1,500 participants had the opportunity to run three different distances on the island in the middle of the Budapest stretch of the Danube River.
The youngest runners and families were invited to run 980 meters, while the slightly older runners and casual runners were invited to run 2.3 kms, while the more experienced runners could try their hand at the classic 5-km run in a Santa Claus costume with a beard.
The event attracted runners from 191 towns and villages in the country, but also tourists and runners from other nations, with 19 countries represented, including Japan with 59 children.
As this was also a charity event, the organisers asked participants to bring a gift to the symbolic bag, the contents of which will be donated to the Agota Foundation for children in care.
