This year, from 10-20 October, the 13th SEHENSWERT FILM FESTIVAL will take place at the Művész Cinema in Budapest. The joint film festival of the Embassy of Switzerland, the Austrian Cultural Forum and the Goethe Institute will present a selection of the latest films from the German-speaking world, this time also in the original language with Hungarian subtitles.
Several of the films presented at the festival have a literary focus. The opening film is an adaptation of Robert Seethaler's brilliant and sophisticated novel 'A Whole Life', which has been published in Hungarian and offers comfort and guidance in difficult times. Also on offer is Why Didn't You Send it among the Angels?', based on Julia Franck's novel of the same name, translated into 25 languages. Two world wars frame this unusual family story, narrated by an extraordinary woman.
Winner of the Silver Bear for Best Screenplay at this year's Berlinale, 'Dying' stars Lars Eidinger and Ronald Zehrfeld. In the hilarious comedy 'Hello Switzerland!', a mad referendum throws Switzerland into a state of emergency, while the brilliant Sandra Hüller shines in the comedy 'Zwei zu Eins'. After Budapest, the best films of the festival will be screened in Debrecen, Szeged and Pécs.
