Aquincum campus opened

Aquincum campus, the new university quarters of Graphisoft Park in the northern Óbuda region of the Hungarian capital was inaugurated this Friday. AIT-Budapest and IBS International Business School are the two first two 'tenants' in the new campus.

100 years ago, it was
István Bárczy, the then mayor of Budapest who inaugurated the Óbuda Gas
Factory. On the centenary, the current mayor, István Tarlós – along with Gábor Bojár,
Chairman of the Board of Graphisoft Park and the founder of Aquincum Institute
of Technology (AIT-Budapest) – was among those present at the opening ceremony
of the Aquincum Campus on the 15th anniversary of Graphisoft Park, built on the
site of the old Gas Factory.

Organizers
say the new campus will help Graphisoft Park fulfill its mission in service of
the knowledge based society. AIT-Budapest and IBS
International Business School are the two first institutions to establish their
permanent homes there.

The mission of the Aquincum Institute of
Technology – which started in 2007 as a specialized program of the Faculty of
Electrical Engineering and Informatics of the Budapest University of Technology
and Economics (BME) – is to complement academic excellence with a business and
user friendly approach in education that is essential in the knowledge based
economies in Hungary and worldwide.

AIT-Budapest’s current achievements give
rise to great expectations: students arrive from the most excellent
Universities of the United States (from Harvard, Yale, Princeton, MIT and 40
other elite institutions) to complete a one-semester program here,  along with selected students from BME, for
whom tuition is waived.

The
other ‘tenant’, the IBS International Business School was formed in 1991 as the
first private college in Hungary. It offers the possibility of obtaining a
British degree to those seeking to complete their business studies in English.
As of today IBS is accredited in Hungary, Britain, the U.S. and other countries
in Europe, through which it can accommodate various substantially different
demands in high quality. Its students are arriving from 65 countries. IBS
provides a highly practice oriented education in small seminar format.
